Apple is also having problems with its latest default iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 app settings. After it was discovered that power-cycling devices would flip the default email and web browser back to Apple's own software , the company quickly fixed that problem.
But now it has been reported — and The Verge has verified it directly— that any time you update your preferred default app (like Gmail or Microsoft Edge) in the App Store, it will be booted from the default app slot. It's likely that Apple will be able to address this in time for the release of iOS 14.2, which remains in beta. Having to re-select Gmail or Outlook as your favorite default email client any time Google or Microsoft launches an update is less than desirable. If you've found that your choices aren't going to stick, this could be the reason — especially if you've got automatic app updates activated. The Verge reached out to Apple for a comment.
