Ryan Kaji, a nine-year-old star on YouTube's popular Ryan World channel, is widening his empire with a new Amazon Kids Plus broadcast. This is the first time that a YouTube maker has collaborated with Amazon for an original series. The display will begin on the 27th of November.
Super Spy Ryan is a 30-minute live-action/animation hybrid series that follows Kaji as he's transported to the animated universe and has been charged with retrieving the Golden Console from a nefarious hamster called Packrat, according to a press release. Live-action scenes will star Kaji and his family, who are also regularly featured on his YouTube page. The channel now has nearly 30 million viewers.
Bringing Super Spy Ryan as the first Amazon Kids Plus original is a dream come true for us, said Shion Kaji, Ryan's parent, in a tweet.
Amazon Kids Plus is a $3 per month subscription program that offers children a variety of videos, comics, games and other entertainment products. The bundle also contains original material, and Amazon, among other businesses, is looking at YouTube makers as a means to get kids to spend more time on their website.
For Kaji and his family, expanding to one of the world's largest websites is just another step in their business. Kaji now has a show contract with Nickelodeon—a part of ViacomCBS's plans to continue to make Nickelodeon important again. His team has also launched a Ryan and Friends OTT channel in September.
Other famous YouTube children's channels are spreading to streamers and networks. Cocomelon is currently on Netflix, thanks to the deals of its parent company, Moonbug, and HBO Max is working with YouTubers for the original series.
It makes sense for streamers and networks: children already know these characters and will enjoy new content showcasing their beloved YouTube channels on more stable platforms. Amazon is likely to hope to pull over some of Ryan's World's viewers and keep them on-site for other Amazon Kids Plus offerings.
