WhatsApp tests a new feature that lets you connect contacts using QR codes

WhatsApp 's new beta update allows you to connect contacts by scanning their QR codes, WABetaInfo says. The functionality that is available in beta on both iOS and Android can be found in the App Settings tab, where there are options for viewing your own code, as well as scanning other users. QR code can also be revoked if it is shared with someone you don't want to have your number.

It's a minor feature, but adding contacts to WhatsApp can be a pain. At the moment, the service depends on you adding a new contact to your phone's address book, creating an irritating extra phase when you just want to be able to send a message to someone on WhatsApp itself.

QR codes are a much more convenient way to add someone if you're with them in person, although it won't make the process much easier if you do it online.

While the feature is currently available in beta, there is no news about when we might see it coming to the main app. If you want to enter the beta on Android, I've been able to log in using this connection and verify that the QR code option can be found in the settings, but IOS beta is reportedly locked.
