WhatsApp has announced that the Facebook-owned messaging service will receive a collection of features in the coming weeks. We have already heard about a few, like QR codes, which, thanks to their appearance in the beta versions of WhatsApp, can be used fast to add new contacts or animated stickers. But they are official now and we know that soon they will be out of beta.
One of the most interesting features on the list is that you can add contacts via QR code because it means that you can quickly scan the code and not enter your complete phone number to make a new contact.
Group video calling is also tweaked, so that one of a maximum of 8 participants can quickly maximize the film feed and a new video icon will also be added into group chats up to eight people, so you can start a group video call quickly.
In the meantime, animated stickers are much like the current stickers of the service, with simply added animation, and a new dark mode is available for the desktop of this service and for web customers that matches the dark mode that its mobile apps launched earlier this year. Finally, you can now use the story-style Status feature of WhatsApp if you use WhatsApp on a KaiOS smartphone such as the Nokias 2720 Flip.
WhatsApp says the web mode and the status of KaiOS are now live and the video max feature will be released in this week's update. The next weeks are due to come with QR codes, animation stickers and the new calling group button.
