Update with built-in kernel and Cortana updates now available Windows 10 May 2020

The Windows 10 May 2020 Updates are now being released by Microsoft. This is Windows 10 's latest "major" update and includes Linux 2 and Cortana updates as a Windows Subsystem. A final update for the testers has been issued by Microsoft last month, with Windows 10 available for all today via Windows Update for the May 2020 Update.

The big release of May 2020 is the Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 (WSL 2) with a Linux custom kernel. With this Software integration into Windows 10, the performance of the Linux kernel on Windows will be considerably enhanced.

Microsoft is also committed to updating this kernel with the Windows Update, so developers can create their own WSL kernel and make changes.

WSL 2 does not yet have the support of the Linux Interface framework or the acceleration of GPU hardware because all features are promising for the update of Windows.

There are some major changes to Cortana in the May 2020 update. Today Cortana can be undocked from the Windows 10 task bar and provides the option of texting or chatting to the interactive wizard.

This includes tweaks to the Cortana interface to enhance the conversation, and with this latest update Microsoft also added a rapid search to the search home. These include fast weather access, news, history today and new films.

The Windows 10 May 2020 Update may be downloaded with the Settings > Update and Security > Windows Update.
