On Thursday, Ride-hailing Giant Uber unveiled a new service that provides discounted trips from/to Dubai and Abu Dhabi to and from U.A. health employees.
The Uber Medics service is part of the global healthcare workers and communities program for the Company during the Covid-19 outbreak.
Rifad Mahasneh, general manager of UAE Uber said, 'We want to play our part and help people who have played a major role in protecting us in this pandemic.
"We look forward to launching Uber Pharmacists in the UAE, working in addition to our colleagues in these difficult times and helping more health care employees."
The company was launched in Great Britain last month, giving medical personnel a 25 % discount. But the value of the discount offered in the Emirates was not disclosed byUber.
In the USA, Uber Medics will be going to help thousands of healthcare workers in living with a number of partners – such as Amana Healthcare, part of the network of health providers in Mubadala.
"Amana Healthcare will use Uber Medics to transport their caregivers to and from the patient's home in an Uber for Business solution," the company said.
Saudi German Hospital and Zulekha Hospital in Dubai are additional healthcare providers whose medical staff make use of this service.
'We have been looking at how we can foster and positively influence our communities,' Mr Mahassneh added, 'those are difficult times, the spread of coronavirus has brought a lot of change in our way we live and work.'
Uber is also investing $50 million (Dh183.5 million) on secure supplies for its drivers including masks and sanitis.
