Uber announces the construction of an electric car for drivers

Square lines. There are a lot of things we can fault Uber, especially the status of drivers. But in terms of ecological transition, the American firm is setting its feet in the dish. In particular, it wants “  50% of electric vehicles available on the application by 2025 ”, and hopes to become “zero emissions” by 2040 . Ambitions which are accompanied by plans and assistance for drivers so that they can drive electric.

And in the continuity of these green announcements, Uber unveiled a car, in partnership with the specialist manufacturer Arrival  based in London, designed especially for VTC journeys. The first images show a minivan-style vehicle with a small trunk, but plenty of space for customers in the back (a crucial point for Uber).  Note that the front passenger seat can be folded down to make more room (for suitcases or a stroller, for example), and that this vehicle seems for the moment intended for the British market since the steering wheel is on the right.

Uber Car. This van with clean lines, the first prototype of which will be manufactured in 2022, will be intended for "intensive" use, between 45,000 and 50,000 kilometers per year, Uber estimates. This is why the firm has placed so much emphasis on safety and comfort, as this van has nothing, on paper, of a machine with futuristic curves (even if this first design is likely to be modified. ). The driver will be raised for better visibility and a screen to the left of the driver (yes, we are in the UK) will act as a dashboard. For the moment, Arrival has not communicated on the range or the future performance of the car.

In the idea, this car, which is also called “Uber car”, could start rolling in London from 2023. That's good news since the company intends to become 100% electric in the English capital by 2025. This vehicle is one way among many to achieve the objectives.
