US archives have raised allegations against alleged Twitter staff convicted of hacking

The US has filed new and amended charges against two former Twitter workers and a third person for allegedly espioning on behalf of the Government of Saudi Arabia. The three men have also been charged with working as agents of a foreign power, conspiring to commit wire fraud, and wire theft. One person, former Twitter employee Ahmad Abouammo, was also charged with three counts of money laundering and forgery of documents to hinder the investigation.

Such additional allegations are part of the superseding prosecution, which means they will cover the allegations currently in existence. They arrive shortly after the US lawyers requested that earlier charges be dismissed.

Employees of Twitter, Abouammo and Ali Alzabarah, allegedly accessed private details on Twitter pages important to the Saudi government — including email addresses, phone numbers , dates of birth — and then exchanged the details with Saudi officials between November 2014 and May 2015. The Saudi government allegedly gave the two men gifts and cash payments to share the details.

Abouammo served as a media relationship manager on Twitter, providing assistance to main accounts in the Middle East and North Africa, while Alzabarah was a site usability engineer for the organization. The third man, Ahmed Almutairi, is said to have hired the two workers for the system.

Now Abouammo is in US detention. Last year, according to Cyberscoop, he pled not guilty.
