BEUC, a European consumer rights group with eight member countries, has now opposed WhatsApp's privacy policy in India. BEUC has said that WhatsApp is putting undue pressure on users to accept the privacy policy.
The organization alleges that the way the company has changed its policies is not transparent and users cannot easily understand it. Quite disturbed by the company's new policy, many users are now going to Signal and Telegram.
BEUC Director General M Goyens said WhatsApp has been pressuring users to aggressively accept pop-up messages for the past few months to accept its new terms and privacy rules.
Users are being told that they will not be given access to the app if they do not accept the new policy. BEUC has complained to the commission. Meanwhile, WhatsApp has said that this complaint has been made due to a misunderstanding. According to the company, nowhere in its update policy is the user's right to privacy violated.
