Twitter is launching an election center with information on voting in English and Spanish.

As mail-in time-limits are closing and the presidential election is less than two months away, Twitter is unveiling an election platform. It will have updates on polling and elections in real time, as well as breaking election-related data, the organization reported today.

The portal will appear at the top of the Discover page for U.S. users, which will feature Twitter Moments from "Reputable News Shops" and its curatorship staff in English and Spanish; live feeds of elections and other big events; a guide that displays politicians in the state of the user; and local news.

"Twitter wants to encourage every registered voter to vote in the 2020 U.S. election, and we're focusing on helping people register, better understand the voting process during COVID-19, include early voting opportunities, and more knowledgeable about the choices they make on their ballots," the organization said in a tweet.

The website will also feature voter outreach public service ads "using information from non-partisan government and voting rights groups," and will air on Twitter before election day, and updates on issues such as how to register for an absenteee ballot and how to ballot during a pandemic.

Like other social media outlets, Twitter is seeking to avoid the influx of disinformation as the election approaches. Last year, the corporation removed campaign advertising and placed stickers on tweets from lawmakers, including President Trump, where they provide false or inaccurate facts about voting or include skewed media.

Facebook announced last week that it would also stop producing new campaign advertisements a week before the election, and that it will place the voter awareness center at the top of the Facebook and Instagram feeds. It also plans to mark candidates who claim victory early. And last month, Snapchat revealed that it was introducing in-app voter recognition software.
