Twitter is experimenting with the ability to view YouTube videos directly from a tweet.

Twitter is experimenting with a feature that allows you to stream YouTube videos directly from your timeline. When you click on a YouTube connection in a tweet, it normally takes you to YouTube, which can be irritating if you didn't want to leave Twitter to watch the video. This new feature, which is currently in beta on iOS, ensures that you are not redirected away from Twitter, making it easier to watch a video and then continue scrolling if desired.

In a GIF, Twitter demonstrated how the function works:

This latest test joins two others for iOS and Android that were released last week and are aimed at improving media sharing and viewing on the social network. In one test, the tweet composer adds a “what you see is what you get” image preview, which means images appear in your timeline the same way they do when you draft a tweet. The business is also experimenting with smartphone upload and viewing of 4K videos.
