Twitter introduces prompts, hashtags, and emoji to encourage early voting throughout the US

Starting today, U.S. Twitter users will be prompted to vote early in their home timelines as the 3rd November presidential election approaches.

Updates will provide push notifications for on-Twitter public service announcements, early voting reminders and early voting opportunities for non-partisan BallotReady Voting Classes, and interactive features, including an animated "like" button, and custom emoji for # VoteEarly, # IVoted, # IVotedEarly, and # YoVoté hashtags.

As voters face unprecedented obstacles when casting their ballots in the upcoming 2020 US election, Twitter is doing what we can to ensure that people have access to the accurate information they need to exercise their right to vote, the company said in a blog post written by Twitter public policy director Bridget Coyne and senior product manager Sam Toizer.

So when users press the "retweet" button, Twitter will allow them to comment before posting, making a quota tweet instead.

Last month, Twitter introduced a new set of rules to counter disinformation ahead of the US election, including proposals to mark or delete tweets containing misleading details about election rigging and performance.

Twitter says it's already increased

It added a polling station with details in English and Spanish and said that it would mark the candidates' positions prematurely proclaiming victory. Twitter forbade all political advertisements last year.
