Twitter Spaces is rumored to be coming to desktop Web browsers soon. Twitter Spaces is a similar audio-only chat room to Clubhouse. It was first tested on Apple's iOS platform, and then on Android devices. Twitter hasn't provided a clear date for when the desktop edition will be available to all users. Multiple networks, including Discord and Telegram, are launching their own Clubhouse competitors. Facebook, LinkedIn, Fireside by Mark Cuban, Slack, and Spotify are all working on their own versions.
Twitter's extension to desktop browsers was announced shortly after Discord's Stage Channel was released on April 1. These new features on social media sites are similar to Clubhouse, which allows users to hold audio-only calls with a small number of speakers and a large audience. After the members of the audience have 'raised their hands,' the hosts can choose which member of the audience can speak in the call. Twitter is scheduled to make Spaces available to its users later this month.
Clubhouse opened in April of 2020. It's a private audio-based social networking app that's currently only available on iOS. Paul Davison, Clubhouse's CEO and co-founder, recently announced that the company is working on an Android app as well. Telegram has released Voice Calls 2.0, which allows users to hold live voice chat sessions with an unlimited number of people. It will feature a hand-raising mechanism, invitational ties, and voice-chat names, as well as the ability to capture voice chats for future reference.
Twitter's Fleets — its disappearing posts feature, similar to Instagram and Snapchat stories — got some new features earlier this week. GIFs and Twemojis (Twitter's animated emojis) are also available as stickers.
