In the latest surprise and high-profile suspension from the streaming service, Twitch temporarily prohibited President Donald Trump. For the "hateful conduct" aired on stream the account of Trump was banned, and Twitch said that the contents of the offense are now removed.
One of the streams in question was a retransmission of the infamous kick-off rally in Trump, in which he said Mexico would send rapists. At Trump's recent rally in Tulsa, Twitch also flagged racist remarks.
"As anybody, Twitch politicians must abide by our Service Conditions and Community Directives.
We will take action with regard to reported content, which violates our rules, "Twitch spokesman said in The Verge. We will not make any exceptions for political or newsworthy content. The statement first came out last year at the start of Trump's channel.
This suspension comes a week after the Twitch swore, after reports of assaults and harassment by streamers, it would attack the community. It's a sign that Twitch can get much more serious about moderating streams. Often, his role as politicians and President of the United States permits the racist language for which Trump has been prohibited.
Twitch said last week that in response to allegations, it would start to issue permanent bans to streamers. Dr Disrespect, one of the most popular streamers on the site, seems to have the first major ban. Twitch has repeatedly refused to confirm why Dr. Disrespect has been banned — he wasn't alleged publicly — and the streamer has said that he wasn't told why his channel had disappeared.
The campaign Trump started in October with its Twitch page. The campaign seemed to use this page for rallies and campaign events. Trump's campaign was commented on by the Verge.
Just minutes before Twitch stopped Trump, Reddit said it had banned a number of subreddits, including r / The Donald, for harassment. As the Twitch channel is, the subdirector is not directly connected to the president.
