TikTok informs the Australian Government that it will make the source code accessible for review

TikTok told the Australian Government Committee that it will allow government officials to review its algorithm and test its source code as it tries to resolve the skepticism surrounding China's ownership of the video streaming app operator.

ByteDance, owner of TikTok, has reached an agreement with Oracle Corp and Walmart Inc, which it hopes would put an end to U.S. proposals to ban TikTok in the United States on security grounds. It said that the deal would see the development of a stand-alone U.S. company, TikTok Global, which does not require any technology transfer, while Oracle will be able to inspect the TikTok source code.

Australian executives of TikTok appeared in Canberra on Friday before the Select Committee on Foreign Intervention by Social Media, where they said that the machine instructions that direct the material provided to TikTok users will be made more widely available for review.

Lee Hunter, Chief Executive Officer of TikTok Australia, said the "contract is underway" and had no knowledge of the negotiations.

TikTok was registered as a corporation in Australia last year and two of the three directors of the Australian company are senior executives of ByteDance.
