TikTok and John Lennon (alongside Universal Music) celebrate the late singer's 80th birthday by collaborating to give the creators access to some of his most famous songs.
"The instant karma! (We All Shine On)," "Imagine," "Mind Games," "Beautiful Boy," "Woman," "Happy Xmas "(War Is Over)," Give Peace a Chance," "Stand By Me," "Nobody told Me," "Remember, "and" Gimme Some Facts "are all available now, according to the business. There is also a dedicated John Lennon account, which currently has more than 23,000 followers. The first video was released in September.
We're completely delighted and honoured to introduce John Lennon 's music to a new audience, and we're excited to see how the TikTok group can be inspired to create the sounds of Lennon 's repertoire, said Corey Sheridan, head of TikTok 's music collaborations and content operations. The timeless lyrics of Lennon are as true now as when they were written.
Lennon 's estate is the first to be affiliated with TikTok. In June, TikTok collaborated with the Prince estate to add the singer's catalog of songs to the platform. It was the first time that the Prince estate had collaborated with a short-form video app. While Prince's songs haven't been especially successful on the app — no one has achieved the viral popularity of TikTok 's songs by other artists — it seems like an effort by the estate and labels to try and make a bid for a younger generation of music listeners. Adding and hoping to pick up some of Lennon 's songs is another testimony to how important labels and estates see an artist's work on TikTok.
