This solar-powered cargo bike charges while you pedal

A quarter of the pollution. With containment, e-commerce has exploded. A good point for the economy. But not for the ecology, because the carriers already weigh nothing less than 25% of the CO2 emissions of the cities. Vans and vans generate traffic jams and rare are the delivery men who turn off their engines while they are depositing a package ... Logistics companies have noticed this and are electrifying their fleets. But to motivate them to prefer two-wheelers for the last kilometer, a Dutch company is launching SunRider  : a cargo bike that goes further with the same recharge since it carries 3 solar panels on its back.

100 km in a single charge.  At the back of the SunRider is a closed cargo ship one cubic meter in volume, about the size of a pallet. It is this “trailer” which is covered with photovoltaic cells for a power output of up to 545 watt-peak. According to the Dutch from Need The Globe , this solar installation is enough to recharge the 1.6 kWh battery to half its range at least every day and reach 100 kilometers without reconnecting.

For the rest, it's a very classic cargo bike, with its 250 W hub motor capable of carrying 150 kilos without flinching and a design that, we are promised, reduces friction by 15 %. The calves of delivery people will confirm this, but by recharging themselves half as much without rejecting any carbon, they are already reducing their electricity consumption (part of which still comes from fossil fuels) by at least 50%. And that is double good news.
