The government intends to bridge the digital divide between rural and urban communities, according to the Minister of IT

According to Syed Aminul Haque, Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications, the government of Pakistan plans to close the digital divide between rural and urban population centers so that citizens across the country can achieve digital equality.
 
According to Profit by Pakistan Today, the minister made this declaration while speaking to the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) on Saturday.
 
He stated that the country had seen landmark achievements in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector in recent years as a result of the government's effective policies.
 
He stated that the administration had implemented numerous changes to improve the climate for technology-based firms in the country.
 
The rise of digital economy, accelerated by Covid-19 pandemic, had transformed the world, but “its global potential is yet to be realized”, he added.
 
“Countries face new challenges as the global scale of the digital economy and the power of the private sector grows,” he said. 

“Pakistan endorses that DCO is actively pursuing its vision of achieving social prosperity and growth of the digital economy by unifying efforts to advance the digital transformation agenda and promote common interests of the member states,” he added. 

The minister emphasized Pakistan's efforts toward digitization, stating that the country has launched the "Digital Pakistan" campaign to boost connectivity, develop digital infrastructure, raise investment in digital skills, and promote innovation and entrepreneurship.
 
Pakistan, he noted, believed in the adoption of developing digital technologies to enable cross-sector socioeconomic development and transformation of economic activities, governance models, social interaction, and the attainment of sustainable development goals.
 
According to global reports, the World Economic Forum ranked Pakistan among the “best countries” in terms of ICT service affordability, and the country was named the second-largest online labor supplier in software development and technology, according to the most recent International Labour Organization report.
 
He stated that the government's objective was to accelerate digitization and transform Pakistan into a knowledge-based economy in order to drive economic growth through innovation and entrepreneurship.
