In June, a spectrum auction for cell phones is set to take place. Because of the potential available in Pakistan, the consultancy firm onboarded by the government is optimistic that it will be profitable.
At a meeting of the advisory committee for the launching of the Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS) spectrum, the briefing was given. At the meeting, the committee accepted the proposals for the selling of the spectrum. In the next round, the consultants will meet with stakeholders and forward the auction brief.
The consultants would then submit the ‘information memorandum' containing the auction procedures to the next level. The 1,800 and 2,100 MHz bands are about to go on the market. The IT minister told the committee that selling the spectrum was crucial to strengthening and expanding connectivity and information technology services across the world.
According to PTA, Pakistan will have commercially accessible 5G internet by 2022-23, after the IT ministry evaluated 5G frequency bands for launch in Pakistan.
