The AirDrop file sharing feature of Android can be supported more than just for mobile devices.

Nearby Share functionality (also known as nearby- sharing) may also appear on various other platforms in Android 's upcoming AirDrop-Style Sharing, 9t5Google says. This feature allows Android users to share photos, connections, and other files directly with other devices, like AirDrop operates on MacOS and iOS systems.

The feature appears to be shown in the settings of Chrome OS Canary 's latest build:

According to XDA developers, the response from Android to AirDrop was originally called "Easy Share." It is supposed to be made available through Google Play, and code references say it works not merely on mobile Android devices, but also on Chromebooks and other Google Chrome computers.

An earlier this year video by XDA Developers showed Nearby Sharing baked in the quick setup menu of Android. It seemed best if the devices that share files were at each other's foot.

Although it's not clear when Nearby Share will finally make its debut, it probably won't be too much longer since the rumors about it began.
