Tesla is also buying a cheaper Standard Range version of the Model Y. The latest edition, which Electrek stated to be available, has a cheaper starting price of $41,990 compared to $49,990 for the Long Range model. The discount arrives with a smaller EPA measured range of 244 miles rather than 326 miles, and the rear wheel rather than the all-wheel drive.
In addition to the current cheaper Model Y version, Tesla is now offering a new 7-seater option for a $3,000 premium. The variant has a third row of seats, which can be folded flat along with the second row for cargo storage.
Tesla first introduced the Standard Range version of the Model Y back in March 2019, when the vehicle was announced. At the time, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the company was targeting the Spring 2021 release date for the entry-level Model Y with a range of 230 miles and a price tag of $39,000. However, in July last year, Musk said that Tesla had scrapped its proposals for the Standard Range model because its "range would be unacceptably low" below 250 miles. The new $41,990 Standard Range Model Y seems to be a compromise on the initial plan.
If you wish to order a new variant, Tesla states that the average shipping times are usually between two and five weeks.
