Tesla makes its Cybertruck reservations in China

Tesla's all-electric Cybertruck reservations have opened to customers in China, which tests the market's appetite for a huge futuristic truck.

It is not expected to start production until the end of 2022, and the CyberTRUK was launched in November at the Tesla design center in Hawthorne, Calif. But this has not stopped a truck replenishing a $100 repayable deposit for thousands of American consumers. Just weeks after Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that 250,000 vehicles had been reserved.

Today, Tesla is testing Chinese consumers' potential interest.

How many of these reserves — in China and in the US-are converted to real sales is impossible to predict. It will be over a year before any answers are given. The decision on where the vehicle will be built did not even finalize Tesla.

In March, Musk tweeted that Tesla was tracking sites for a factory to produce Y-crossovers for both the Eastern and Cyber truck markets. At that time, Musk said the plant would be in the middle of the United States.

Tesla was initially looking at Nashville and talked to officials.

Since then, Austin and Tulsa have been the company's focus. Talks have progressed quickly in Austin and it seems likely the plant will end up outside the town. Although the Tulsa officials quickly realized that there were also talks with Tesla.

Tesla said it's going to offer three Cybertruck variants. The cheapest version, a single engine with rear-wheel drive, costs $39,900 and is able to tow over 7,500 pounds. The center version will be a dual-engine all-wheel drive, will carry over 10,000 pounds of towing capacity and can travel for more than 300 miles in one charge.

The AWD dual engine is $49,900 priced.

The third will include three electric motors and full-wheel drive, 14,000 pounds of towing capacity and more than 500 miles of battery range. The so called 'tri engine' is $69,900 priced.
