Spotify is continuously adding to its unique podcast arsenal and is now entering the field of sports. The company has announced a partnership over several years with Riot Games that will make Spotify the hub of all audio content from League of Legends, including an exclusive series.
At least one show, called Untold Stories: Top moments from Worlds, will be presented this year, a nine-episode series that will lead to the 10th League of Legends this autumn. Listening games highlights, interviewing and sounding effects will hear about the game players and the top anthem.
There will also be two music playlists regularly updated, including the existing This is the League of the Legends.
The song Riot is published every year by Spotify and plans to dedicate a day to the Anthem Worlds, to start its yearly championship competitions and to give listeners a glimpse into how the music has been produced.
The partnership may seem rather improbable, but because of the popularity of the League of Legends' music, it makes sense. The YouTube channel has a playlist for music videos and over 21 million people have viewed. The game is a public user on Spotify and has over 154 million listeners on its top track. Spotify clearly sees a chance here to enhance their commercialization and attract gamers.
Once you have come to Spotify your music and audio player it can start to market other audio content, possibly other game-related podcasts and finally encourage you.
An esport Podcast, especially as it is a Spotify exclusive, is also an intriguing idea. One of the most popular if not the most popular sports is League of Legends. The world championship last year was attended by over 100 million people. Even a small percentage of these viewers would create enough listeners to monetize the show to Spotify.
