Spotify was offline for about an hour today, following a massive outage of impacted users in countries across Europe and beyond. The music streaming service stopped operating for everyone at about 4:15 AM ET, and Spotify corrected the problems almost an hour later.
Spotify outages are rare, and the last big one occurred back in August, after the company had failed to update its TLS license. The service was down for an hour back then, but this time we checked and the TLS certificate doesn't seem to be the cause of the problems.
Spotify also faced problems earlier this year with the larger Facebook iOS SDK topic. The software crashed on mobile computers due to a Facebook iOS SDK bug, but today's shutdown does not seem to be linked to any Facebook problems as it has been common in both desktop and mobile clients.
We've reached out to Spotify to comment more on today's shutdown, and we'll notify you accordingly.
