The Spotify is coming to Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead. In order to develop a series of podcasts in Riverdale that feature its character universe, Archie Comic is the world's biggest subscription-based music streaming service. Spotify Studios and Archie Comics will participate in various shows throughout the partnership, some for all ages and others aimed at young people. Further details "soon" will be announced.
The two have not collaborated for the first time. 2018 saw the start of motion comic books with six-pisode videos in Spotify Studios and Archie Comics.
The new deal is part of Spotify 's ambition to become the Netflix of the first podcasts. Spotify released 78 original podcasts in the first three months of 2020. Spotify has launched 15 original podcasts from India since it arrived in India in February last year. In addition to DC Comics, Kim Kardashian West, and Joe Rogan, Archie Comics joins a series of major recent podcast dealings.
All of this was based on acquisition of Spotify 's major podcast networks (Gimlet Media, Anchor FM, Parcast) in the past year and podcast manufacturers (The Ringer).
The Spotify deal is another move towards the new media for Archie Comics. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, CEO of the publisher, voiced his concern to extend its scope to other formats. It started with Riverdale 's dark, teen drama series – available on Netflix in India – which rethought the sunny, happy comic world as a mysterious and unpleasant location .. Then came Sabrina 's supernatural Chilling Adventures series, and Netflix as well.
Also since 2015 Aguirre-Sacasa's Broadway Musical for Archie Comics is still in motion or stalled, although it remains unclear.
Since its foundation in 1939, Archie Comics has sold more than 2 billion copies worldwide. Worldwide Spotify has more than 286 million users, with 130 million subscribers paid.
