In response to ongoing demonstrations, Sony is postponing its PlayStation 5 event scheduled for 4 June. "We understand that players around the world are excited about PS5 games, but we don't believe it's time to rejoice right now," says Twitter Sony. "We want to stand and let more important voices be heard for now."
Sony specifically points to George Floyd 's death in Minnesota and the subsequent riots in the US and across the globe. Sony planned to make use of Thursday's event to demonstrate PS5 games, promising for an hour-long event to take place when PlayStation 5 starts
There have been mass demonstrations around major cities in the USA, with the implication that police violence is alarming. The uprisings started last week after the death of Floyd and increased significantly over the weekend. Twitter also warned the President of the "glorifying crime" looting last week.
The decision by Sony has resulted from a similar move by EA to postpone its Madden NFL 21 event today, and the decision of Google to delay its Android 11 beta ad. The latest date for the PS5 case has not yet been announced by Sony.
