Snapchat also has lenses expressly designed to be used for viral TikTok dance competitions.

Snap understands that users are sharing videos of their virtual reality glasses on various sites, and today they are releasing glasses exclusively for use on TikTok. The company is working with four TikTok artists, including Jalaiah Harmon, who created Renegade dance, to introduce Snapchat lenses that watch people's bodies as they move and adjust their reaction. One prism, created in partnership with Dixie D'Amelio, places rain around the subject along with cartoon lightning bolts and fireworks, based on how they travel. Snap claims these lenses track 18 joints around the body, and everyone can create body lenses from Lens Studio today.

With these initial lenses, the aim is simply to inspire people to come and Snapchat to use their artistic resources, probably rather than their social network. Given that all of Snapchat's influencer collaborators for this launch are famous TikTok dancers, the company tacitly says that it needs people to dance with lenses and use them in the most common TikTok challenges.

Right now, only two of the lenses have built-in audio, meaning that users can't play audio and execute the tasks straight from Snapchat. Instead, they 're going to have to play music from another app while recording or performing a dance without music cues.

Snap says it plans to encourage English-speaking users to record music beginning this fall. The company says the app is intended to help users exchange music with their close friends, rather than promoting dance competitions on the site.

Generally, Snapchat is portraying itself as more of a place to build than distribute, and is an exciting direction to see the company dominate. Snap has been a photography company for years now, and these glasses, along with other projects such as the Snap Photography Desktop App, are talking about the project.
