Slack needs to incorporate support for planned notifications and more update power.

Slack is testing a wide range of new apps, including planned updates, stories in Instagram and brief video and audio updates, that could make it into the common messaging site.

In a recent interview on The Vergecast, CEO Stewart Butterfield noted that the company has already "implemented APIs that send messages schedule and I think that we'll end up putting them in the production at some time."

Butterfield also said that the company is looking to add additional tools to make it easier for user "to track things you want to get back to," including the above-mentioned programming tools and "more notification control."

In addition, Butterfield said Slack could add some sort of story-like user interface in Slack channels to teams sometime down the line. The aim would be to provide teams with a way to communicate wider projects updates or statuses that are not allowed by simple text messages.

Slack is now developing a way for communities of people to collaboratively curate updates and posts within Slack to handle the often daunting volume of knowledge that the chat app will flow around.

Butterfield has created an environment in which Slack would not compete: real-time video calls, such as the ones provided by Zoom or Google Meet. Butterfield also clarified that the business concentrates more on "visual or audio correspondence asynchronous" possibilities close to the fast voice and video connectivity functionality of applications such as the WhatsApp and iMessage, which is ideal for Slack.

Butterfield 's priorities and which (if any) would be involved in shaping the potential features for the company remain uncertain. It is not yet clear. There are some-like schedule messages with Slack APIs-that certainly sound far beyond the new story system, but when or if you expect a new functionality there is no timeframe announced.
