Microsoft is adding a background blur feature to its iOS app for Skype. The feature is the same as the Teams app in the business , enabling iPhone and iPad users to blur the background of a video call. Microsoft also added this automatic blurring history to the Skype mobile app last year.
Microsoft is using AI to blur everything around you in a room and keep you at the center of focus. The blur effect, which is effectively bokeh, will detect hair, arms , and hands to avoid blurring key body language during video calls. It's not going to completely obscure everything around you, but it certainly improves video calls where you want to keep a focus on you, not a messy room.
Google also reportedly adds background blur to its Meet video conferencing service, just as the battle for business-focused video and chat apps is on the rise. Microsoft is now pivoting its Teams Messaging Software to represent groups of friends and relatives, but continues to help and refresh Skype.
If Skype now supports background blur on your Laptop, iOS, and iPadOS, there's no word on Android support right now. You can download the latest version of Skype for your iPhone or iPad and allow background blur within the video call options.
