Russia invents the tram of the future, to be placed between two roads

A security tram. In the world of tomorrow, the space given to cars will not be as large as it still is today. And on the main roads, fewer tracks could give way to the installation, for example, of this autonomous tram. Called Urban Monorail Shuttle, this futuristic mode of transport imagined by the Russian design firm Working People was designed for the city.

The agency's idea is to use the space between two roads (the guardrail) to install rails where autonomous trams could run. Beyond a network of corridors dedicated to pods, the implementation of this mode of transport in large cities would be, on paper, relatively easy. And less expensive, since there would be no need to create tunnels or elevated stations to bypass the roads.

Stop on request. These trams, designed for long distances, could accommodate around ten passengers each. Autonomous, they could circulate en masse when demand is high, for example during peak hours, and remain in the “garage” during slower times. The interior is spacious, with transparent windows and modern information displayed on the facades of the vehicle. According to the agency, passengers could also choose their stopover from a mobile application. But the installation of this tram still requires the creation of stations where passengers can get on and off without danger. And therefore a redevelopment of the space to secure access to them, especially in the middle of a busy road.

Like this tram in Hong Kong , it's impossible to say whether the Russian agency's one will ever leave the factories. But these are concepts to be taken into consideration in new designs and for new mobility.
