Redmi 9 May Launch as a New Poco Phone in India

According to a report, Redmi 9 is set to be launched in India under the Poco brand. Although neither Xiaomi nor Poco has officially provided any details, it is alleged that the Redmi 9 variant bearing the model number M2004J19I has appeared on the Poco branding website of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

Separately, the TUV Rheinland certification has been leaked online, which also associates the same model number with the Poco phone. The Redmi 9 was launched earlier this month in Spain. Two new storage variants along with up to 6 GB of RAM were also received earlier this week.

As per a screenshot shared by MySmartPrice, the new Poco phone with model number M2004J19I was included in the BIS certification database last week. The same model was also shown on the TUV Rheinland certification list dated June 1.

It is important to note that the model number M2004J19I was initially associated with the Redmi 9 model. However, since Xiaomi has not launched that particular Redmi model in India, it could have debuted as a new Poco phone — at least if we look at the details reported.
The emailed query sent to Poco India did not generate a response at the time this story was published.

Although Xiaomi and Poco have not provided any details about the new model, they have a history of launching Redmi phones as Poco models in some markets. For example, the Poco X2 that was launched in India earlier this year as a rebrand of the Redmi K30. The Poco F2 Pro, which was unveiled in Europe, has also come as a rebranded version of the Redmi K30 Pro.

The Redmi 9 has been released at EUR 149 (roughly Rs. 12,700) for the 3 GB RAM + 32 GB storage model, while its 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage version is priced at EUR 179 (roughly Rs. 15,300). The phone has also recently been sold in China through additional RAM and storage options.
