Paytm is back hours after it's been banned from Google Play for violating the content rules of the platform. Paytm is now listed again on Google Play, tweeted by the company. However, at the time of writing, the Paytm First Games app was not restored.
Paytm has just been removed from Google Play. The app was removed due to the addition of a fantasy cricket tournament recently included by the company, which violates the Google Play policy, the search giant confirmed. The iOS Paytm App is still available for download from the Apple App Store. In addition to the Paytm app, Google Play has launched the Paytm First Games app, which also includes the same fantasy cricket features as real money betting.
The Google Play page of the Paytm app displays an error that reads, Sorry, the requested URL was not located on this server. Users on Android devices are also unable to download the app from the Google Play preload. However, existing users who have already installed the app on their devices may continue to use the mobile wallet and other services provided by the company.
At the time Paytm posted a tweet confirming that the app would be restored very soon, and reassured users that their money was safe.
Alongside the Paytm app, Paytm First Games is also no longer available for download from Google Play.
Earlier on Friday, Google wrote a blog post that outlined its gaming policy that would not encourage software developers to make sports betting simpler. This was a feature Paytm made available via the newly declared fantasy cricket tournament.
They do not authorize online casinos or endorse any unauthorized gaming applications that make sports betting simpler. This is, if the software takes users to an online platform that encourages them to compete in paying competitions to win real money or cash prizes, a breach of our policy, Google said in its blog post. It stated that this was the reason for the withdrawal of the Paytm service.
