Pakistan is preparing to hold its first digital census in 2023, which will be a big step forward on the path to digitization.
According to Gulf News, the federal cabinet intends to undertake a digital census in pilot mode with the use of a geographic information system (GIS) to test it out.
The introduction of contemporary technology, especially geographic information systems (GIS), is intended to revolutionize the entire process and make it considerably more efficient, accurate, and transparent.
This conclusion resulted from an in-depth debate held by Prime Minister Imran Khan's special committee on the seventh population consensus.
In a post-session media briefing, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry stated that Pakistan will conduct the census using advanced technology for the first time. To finish the census, the entire procedure may take up to 550 days.
The minister also stated that Pakistan's general elections in 2023 will be held in accordance with the revised census. In order to increase transparency, the government has also deployed locally-manufactured electronic voting machines (EVMs) for the next general elections, according to him.
According to the officials, a nationwide census coordination center will be established with the participation of all stakeholders, an integrated media strategy for public awareness campaign, and thorough security measures will be implemented.
According to the specifics, the census questionnaire will be streamlined, the field operation process will be comprehensive, and census employees will be fully trained. To confirm the census results, a post-census survey will be undertaken.
