After a court suspended the Chinese video service TikTok weeks ago and urged authorities to ensure that it carried no "vulgar" content, Pakistan's media regulatory agency restored access to it on Thursday.
Following complaints about the alleged existence of "immoral and indecent material" on the famous social media app, a court in Peshawar issued the ban on March 11. It was repealed on Thursday after meeting with the media agency.
Senior agency official Tariq Gandapur testified at the hearing that contact had been made with TikTok to ensure that those who shared obscene material were blocked. In Pakistan, the app, which is operated by China's ByteDance, has been downloaded nearly 39 million times.
In the region, Pakistan and China are close allies. Pakistan had previously blocked TikTok for ten days over the same problem last year.
