Online child sexual abuse goes up in quarantine

Online sexual harassment and child prostitution have tripled since Philippine internet quarantine.

The jarring results have prompted the CRN to reinforce its demand for stronger defense against on-line child sexual abuse (OSEC).
The Child Rights Network Convener Romeo Dongeto said: "We must declare an all-out war against OSEC to shut down these hideous acts committed against children.

Dongeto reported the perpetration of "family members and near victim contact" by at least 25% of the OSEK cases in the region.
The Department of Justice ( DOJ) registered 279,166 cases between 1 March and 24 May 2020, far more than the 76,561 cases of last year, NCMEC said.

These reports include violated rights such as possessions, production and distribution of child pornography; child sex trafficking , child sex tourism; extra-family child sexual abuse; unsolicited dark material sent to the child; mislading words or digital images on the Internet. The report includes violations of child pornography; child sex trafficking;

The Department of Justice believed that the number of cases rose as Internet usage grew significantly, with half of the 100 million people in the country being under quarantine since mid-March.
"The above rise is attributed to strict home-quarantine in all households and Internet usage decreases as people stay home during the enhanced Neighborhood quarantine (ECQ)," said the DOJ in a release.

Trafficking of minors online
In social media and networking systems, such as Facebook , Twitter, and telegram, there are growing questions regarding child pornography.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has been invited by Senator and Akbayan Chairman Risa Hontiveros to pursue an inquiry.
"Here are some of the communities we mentioned online. His quarantine, more kumalat ang sexual predators online his mga bata. Hontiveros said on their Twitter account that I had sent them to (NBI).
"Our babies, even his social media, must be kept safe. Bilang is a Mama's ring, it's a priority to keep children safe, "she added.

Hotline for OSEC
Senator Hontiveros asked networks to reporters of OSEC cases online or otherwise, via the respective agencies, to subsequent hotline numbers or emails.
"Through these hotlines, monitor naturin ang mga kaso ng online child sexual harassment. Let us finish together this atrocity, "said the senator in a Twitter post.
