OnePlus is pulling the OnePlus 8 T Facebook bloatware

OnePlus is deleting Facebook bloatware from the OnePlus 8T after the company has been blamed for pre-installing Facebook applications and utilities on the OnePlus Nord and the 8-series. OnePlus reported the news to Input, indicating the new phone would only come with Google, OnePlus, and Netflix apps pre-installed.

Part of the reason for the uproar was that while the Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram applications could be uninstalled from the 8-series and Nord phones, background utilities including Facebook 's App Launcher and App Manager couldn't be deleted entirely, as AndroidPolice reported at the time.

OnePlus justified this by saying that including these services allowed it to offer "higher battery efficiency." However, users objected to them on the grounds that they had cluttered OnePlus' streamlined OxygenOS software, and there were reports that they would also use small amounts of data in the background.

For those wondering, OnePlus says that Netflix comes pre-installed on the OnePlus 8 T to allow HDR optimization. The company did not clarify to Feedback that it would never re-install Facebook applications and services, and refused to comment about how existing Nord and OnePlus 8-series owners could remove them from their computers.
