Nokia to supply around 10 percent of the 5 G core network of China Unicom

Finnish telecom manufacturer Nokia told Reuters on Montreal that it was selected by China Unicom to supply around 10% of its 5 G core network, which is confirmation of Nokia CEO Rajeev Suri's earlier statement.

Nokia noted in a statement , adding that the deal corresponds to a 10% share, that China Unicum chose to support Nokia for the building of their 5G-SA-core network in China, marking an expanded 4G-based relations of Nokia with the Chinese communication service provider.

Nokia's Suri said in an interview in late April that Nokia, alongside rivals Huawei and ZTE, had been awarded a 10% share in China Unicom's 5 G core network.

"The core network performs numerous functions, including link building, bandwidth management , network scaling and network protection, and now 5 G extend the network to accommodate new, software-capable applications such as network cut-offs," said Nokia.

Nokia has continued to fund big China radio network orders, including masts, antennas and other hardware, following progress on its core network sales in China.

Nokia has not won 5 G radio contracts in recent bidding rounds from Chinese telecommunications companies-China Mobile, China Unicom and Chinese Telecom-according to media reports.
