A new Uncover hacking community tool will jailbreak iOS 13.5, the recently released version of Apple's mobile operating system, Wired reported. The group says jailbreak, which works on iOS 11 and above, is built on a zero-day vulnerability, doesn't drain the battery life of the device, and doesn't affect the use of Apple services, or undermine iOS sandbox security, according to Wired.
Uncover 's lead developer told Wired the jailbreak introduces exceptions to existing rules, and "enables reading new jailbreak files and sections of the filesystem that do not contain user data." The jailbreak tool is not open source, and the group did not say the vulnerabilities it exploited in iOS to build the tool.
Jailbreaking allows users greater control over the device's OS, enabling the configuration and installation of applications that Apple would otherwise limit. It can also be used by potential attackers to compromise the security of the device.
