Mozilla is shutting down all Firefox Submit and Firefox Comments. Firefox Submit was a free encrypted file transfer application, but it was taken offline in July after Mozilla learned that it was being used to spread ransomware and launch spear phishing attacks. The organization has now agreed to decommission the facility. Firefox States, meanwhile, was an encrypted data syncing program that would destroy Mozilla as well. Any of these resources is part of the Firefox Test Pilot scheme.
Mozilla revealed in a blog post that Firefox Submit and Firefox Notes will be decommissioned and would no longer be part of Mozilla 's software family.
Firefox Submit was released in March 2019, but it had to be taken offline by Mozilla when it became a platform for others to ship ransomware and carry out phishing attacks. At the point , the firm had said that the service would only be temporarily inaccessible while it focused on product improvements. However, Mozilla said in the blog that it weighed the risk of its total portfolio and strategic direction, and opted not to re-launch Firefox Submit. As the service is now down, Mozilla said there will be no significant changes.
Users will no longer be able to upload or import files from Firefox Email. However, the service support page clarified that files shared from a computer or server would still be usable on the system and have not been moved or changed. The business ensured all the files had been deleted from their server.
Firefox Notes was built under the Firefox Test Pilot program as a platform for playing with new methods of encrypted data syncing. Mozilla will be closing down the Android Notes app and syncing support in early November. The Firefox Notes web browser plugin will, however, be available for current builds, but will no longer be managed by Mozilla.
It's not going to be installable either, and the company said it will have an option to upload all notes that you can read more about on the company's support page.
Last month, Mozilla laid off nearly 250 workers as a result of coronavirus-induced economic conditions. At the time of the launch, the business said it would be working on a strategic strategy that would lay out particular places to be addressed. The decision to shut down Firefox Submit and Firefox Notes may be part of the broader scheme.
