Model S from Tesla is the first 400-mile EPA electric car

The S Long Range Plus model Tesla now offers an EPA range of 402 miles which makes it the first electric vehicle to earn a valuation of over 400 miles from the company.

This new grade is applicable to all Model S vehicles in North America with the name "Length Range Plus" introduced by Tesla in February to replace the "Long Range" car version.

"There are 402 mileage range of all Model S cars produced since late Jan," said Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla on a tweet. Model S's long range plus has an initial price of 74,990 $ following a price reduction last month. "It's just making it official."

Until recently, the Model S Long Range Plus EPA range stood at 391 miles, but between Tesla and the EPA that was a cause of dispute.

Tesla CEO stated last month that the rating was due to an EPA error causing the car to lose 2% of its range when tested. But this was disputed by the government agency and the car was properly tested. Musk then told us that when the EPA reopened the car would be re-tested.

The Verge knows that the re-tested result is the new 402-mile rating.

Tesla detailed changes to the 400-mile barrel in a blog post which accompanies the announcement.

These include reductions in weight in components such as the car battery pack, more aerodynamic wheels and more efficient drive drives.

Renewable improvements to blocking also mean that more energy is returned to the battery pack during driving.

The improvements have resulted in "almost 20 percent more battery pack design than the 2019 S 100D model," Tesla says.
