Microsoft's Edge browser crashed if you allowed Google to search by default.

Microsoft's latest Edge browser began crashing unexpectedly as users tapped in the address bar tonight. The problems seem to have limited Edge customers who have chosen Google as the default search engine. Microsoft has addressed the issue and now claims it is understood to have been fixed.

Microsoft Edge crashes began at 7PM ET, impacting all MacOS and Windows users. Microsoft fixed the issues after about four hours of failures, but it's not clear whether they were limited to Google search apps in Edge. When users have moved to the Microsoft Bing search engine inside Edge, crashes have rarely happened.

Microsoft suggested that Search Recommendations be switched off in edge:/settings / search as a quick solution. The Verge has checked this solution and fixed the issue if you set Google to be the default search engine.

Microsoft is also proposing that Edge users restore all configurations that have changed while the address bar crashes have been fixed.
