Microsoft is releasing a new iOS and Android Family Protection app.

Next week, Microsoft is releasing a new Family Safety feature for iOS and Android. The tech giant has been developing the app in recent months, which is intended to allow families to monitor screentime which device use. Parents can use the Family Safety app to receive reports on app usage and overall screen time, and even set time limits for apps with children's ability to request extensions.

Microsoft Family Safety also syncs across Windows, Xbox, and Ios, so time limits for games and apps can be compatible across different devices. It stops children from switching computers to take a few extra hours to play Minecraft or Fortnite. Relevant applications can also be completely blocked.

Microsoft has also added page and search filters to restrict access to child-friendly pages. These filters operate through Microsoft's Windows, Xbox, and Android Edge browsers. Most of these screentime and content filters are restricted to Android on the ios side, but Microsoft says it's working on getting them to iPhones as well. There's also the opportunity to lock up unexpected spending on accounts with payment request emails, helping to prevent credit card bills for thousands of V-bucks.

Family Safety can also be used for the sharing of locations between family members. Microsoft has added a new location-clustering function during the test process that lets users see when multiple family members are in the same place. Microsoft also plans to add reminders when family members arrive or exit a venue, but that will be a premium feature for Microsoft's 365 subscribers.

A new drive protection feature is also on the way for Microsoft's 365 subscribers. It's intended to help people develop healthy driving habits and offer "driving behaviour insights." Microsoft doesn't specify exactly when it's coming, but this drive safety feature will be introduced in the US, the UK, Australia , and Canada.

If you're interested in checking out the Microsoft Family Safety app, it's currently available in the Google Play Store, and Apple's App Store will be available later this week.
