Microsoft is not satisfied with the bullying of the Apple App Store

It is Microsoft's time to investigate the Apple App Store thoroughly for antitrust regulators. This week's chief lawyer, Microsoft, Brad Smith, spoke in a Politico interview describing the walled garden strategy and how the market affects Apple's App Store.

"I believe you will see more and more app stores which create higher walls and much more formidable gates to access different applications than any other application which existed in the industry 20 years ago, when you look at the industry today," says Smith. "

They demand more and more, that there is only one way to enter our platform, and that is to pass the door we made.

For some situations, they generate an incredibly high toll price. Often, 30% of all the sales will have to go to the toll guard.

Bloomberg has confirmed with Microsoft that he's referring specifically to the App Store although Smith doesn't name Apple.

It can be a turning point for the Apple App Store this week. The iPhone manufacturer is currently debating its controversial decision to reject the recent Hey email program.

Initially Apple approved the request but concluded that it violated the rules of the App Store. The Chairman of the House Antitrust Sub-Committee accused Apple of behaving as a monopolist and a tyrant.

As the European Commission announced a formal antitrust investigation into the Apple App Store and Apple Pay, Apple 's decision highlighted Apple's confusing app store policies.

The company is also in an awkward position to host an event that encourages developers to develop apps for its platforms just days before the annual WWDC development conference of Apple.

"I believe that it is time for a much more focused discussion of the nature of app shops, the rules in place, the prices and tools extracted and whether anti-trust law really provides the justification for anything created," said Mr Smith. "This is a good thing.

Microsoft obviously has some history and experience with antitrust cases after it was found guilty of monopolies of its Internet Explorer bundling in Windows almost twenty years ago. Finally, Microsoft was forced to open Windows to other developers and for years had to look more closely at its operations.

The European Commission has continued to order Microsoft, without its packaged Windows Media Player, to create a separate version of Windows and create a browser ballot for consumers to choose from their web browser.

The EU Apple App Store investigation is still early on, so what kind of measures will be taken is unsure, but Microsoft surely stands by and encourages action. The Apple App Store has faced Microsoft's own issues. Back in 2012, the programmers tried to launch their SkyDrive (now called OneDrive) app for iPhones, but were confronted with a 30% decline in revenues from cloud storage purchases in the application. It was a small bug that tested Microsoft's Office launch for iOS.

Microsoft recently fought to launch the xCloud game streaming service on iOS. The company has released a demo, but the program only has a single game and is restricted compared with the edition of Android in order to comply with App Store's rules.

The reason why xCloud is limited by App Store policies, Microsoft didn't disclose. Apple has previously revised its App Store Policy for WWDC 2018 to allow for the streaming of mobile apps like Valve's Steam Link. The App Store has never been fully launched with xCloud or Google's Stadia.

Although Microsoft has battled with Apple over its policies in the App Store, it has also received numerous discounts for its applications in the App Store. In addition to the Minecraft Earth case, Microsoft has also appeared on stage on WWDC in 2014 . The company has previously participated in Apple's iPhone and iPad Office upgrades.

In terms of sales and how a company designs and releases software, Microsoft will benefit from a larger Apple App Store. Based on the many limitations of iOS and Apple's App Store policies, Microsoft has increasingly adopted Android to be the Windows mobile equivalent.

With this investment, Microsoft has developed closer partnerships with Google and Samsung and launch apps such as Your Phone for Windows 10.

Apple is already duplicating its policies on the App Store, but the number of businesses asking for reform is increasing. Last year, Spotify led the package with antitrust complaints and are now making their feelings known to Epic Games, Rakuten, Match Group, Microsoft, and others.

Such appeals are going to get loud as the EU continues its investigations, but it's not afraid to fight back if we know anything about Apple's battles with European regulators.
