Microsoft Pulled Edge Extensions Inserting Adware Into Search Results:

Microsoft's Edge Add-ons shop allegedly disabled some of the plugins that were inserting ads into Google and Bing search results. Microsoft's new change comes just months after Google pulled over 500 malicious plugins from the Chrome App Store. Ad fraud is getting bigger as more users enter the online community. Bad actors are inserting advertisements into search results to mount malware or deliver phishing material to consumers. In May, Microsoft pulled some of the extensions from its Edge Add-ons store that were actually clones of an extension called Dark Reader which containing malicious code of impact users.

Techdows Technology Blog notes that Microsoft has withdrawn much of the ad-injection plugins that Google had already taken from the Chrome App Store. Screenshot & Screen Supreme, Forest Wallpaper HD Custom New Tab, Cs Go Wallpaper HD Custom New Tab, Boku No Hero Academy Wallpaper HD New Tab, cows wallpaper HD Regular, and Supercars — Sports cars wallpaper HD New Tab, among others.

Gadgets 360 was able to check that the identified extensions had been deleted from the Edge Add-ons store. We have contacted Microsoft to gain more information on the matter.

Compared to Google's Chrome Web Store, Microsoft's Edge Add-ons store is also a different extension spot. The Redmond-based firm, however, appears to have a program ready to delete extensions that could insert adware into search results.

Google spokesperson has recently confirmed that it has made daily scans to identify extensions that breach its policies. However, a new study by researchers at Awake Security reported that Chrome spyware plugins had been downloaded 32 million times.
