Persuading her husband to play Ludo with her in order to keep him indoors during the coronavirus-enforced lockdown, left Vadodara resident in Gujarat with a spinal cord injury, as she is said to have been thrashed by him every time he's lost, an official said on Tuesday.
The incident came to light last weekend when the woman, a resident of the locality of Vemali, called Abhyam for help from victims of domestic violence, stating that she had been severely assaulted by her husband, the official said. The victim asked her husband for help, the official said.
The victim asked her husband to play Ludo with her on a mobile phone in order to keep her indoors, he said.
However, the idea went back when the man began beating his wife every time he lost a game to her, prompting her to see a doctor for spine injuries, the official said.
"The woman was injured in her spine and had to go to the hospital. She immediately called Abhyam's helpline number 181. Our staff advised the couple and asked the woman if she wanted any security she declined," said Chandrakant Makwana, Project Coordinator, Abhyam.
Instead, the woman chose to go to her mother's place in the area, he said.
No police complaint has been filed.
