LinkedIn to slash 960 employees after the virus stopped recruiting

Microsoft Corp's LinkedIn social network cut nearly 1,000 workers after the coronavirus pandemic decreased demand for client recruitment resources.

A total of 960 jobs will be eliminated, about 6% of LinkedIn 's workforce. Reductions are taking place in the International Sales and Talent Development divisions of the company. LinkedIn Chief Executive Officer Ryan Roslansky revealed a change to employees via email on Monday.

Millions of employees have lost their jobs since Covid-19 swept across the globe and forced states, companies and customers to cut back on a variety of activities.

There have been fewer businesses looking to hire new workers, which has reduced the market for the recruiting services provided by LinkedIn 's Talent Solutions Group.

COVID-19 has a sustained effect on the hiring market, both in our LTS sector and in our company, Roslansky said in a statement.

The company aims to merge some parts of LinkedIn Talent Solutions with LinkedIn Marketing Solutions in order to prevent "internal duplication of expensive networks, processes and software." It also plans to move from a field sales team to servicing small business customers to an online network.
