Learn more about Apple 's development of AR and VR headsets

For at least the past five years Apple has been working on a mix of AR and VR wearables, and the development process has been detailed in a new Bloomberg report. The report covers some internal disputes that form product design and provides information on how the final devices might be created.

Bloomberg says that the AR and VR team, headed by Mike Rockwell, Apple has two key production products, in line with previous studies. One, known as N421, is a few lightweight AR glasses, while another, known as N301, is known to combine the best of AR and VR.

The second system is said to have triggered some internal conflict in Apple.

However, Apple 's former design manager, Jony I ve, reportedly disliked the idea of the headset N301 that required an external device to run.

He also preferred the N421 glass concept as a whole, as they would not remove people so much from the real world.

Bloomberg notes that after a month-long standoff Apple CEO Tim Cook ended up sideways with I ve over his hubless N301 headset. This is how the headset of the current design is described by Bloomberg:

Bloomberg 's work is a fascinating look at the way that Apple's AR and VR ambitions have been evolving over the years.
