On Friday, CEO Jeff Bezos made a public commitment to support the movement of Black Lives Matter. In answer to a customer e-mail criticizing the company's response to the death of George Floyd and ongoing anti-racism and systemic police brutality protests throughout the country. Bezos published his reply on Instagram publicly.
Amazon.com currently has a prominent banner "Black Lives Matter" at the top of a blog post on the company's efforts to support Black communities and racial justice. "It's pretty disturbing to get to the website and see 'Blacks of LIves'" the customer objected to the banner. The customer said.
Later on the customer said that the Black Lives Matter movement was "ALL LIVES MATTER," the common refrain of the right.
"'The matter of black lives' doesn't mean it doesn't matter for other lives. The issue of Black Lives speaks to racism and the disproportionate risk Black people face in our law enforcement and justice system.
In an email sent to employees, Mark Zuckerberg also announced that he had posted publicly Friday night "Black life matters." "Our Black community: I stand with you. I stand with you. Your lives matter. Your lives matter. "The matter of black lives," Zuckerberg said.
