Japan's Sony and Kioxia are awaiting U.S. permission to supply Huawei-Nikkei.

Japan's Sony Corp and memory chipmaker Kioxia Holdings Corp applied for U.S. permission to resume the supply of Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, Nikkei announced on Sunday.

If verified, the move parallels other tech firms, such as Intel Corp, who have recently obtained licenses from the U.S. authorities.

With the US-China relations at their lowest in decades, Washington has pressured policymakers around the world to pressure out Huawei, alleging that the telecommunications giant will pass data to the Chinese government for surveillance.

Huawei is one of the largest consumers for Sony 's mobile image sensors. Kioxia Holdings Corp is the No. 2 world manufacturer of flash memory chips and a Huawei provider.

Nikkei here said that without U.S. permits, Sony and Kioxia would pose a challenge to their income.

Kioxia cautioned that U.S. Huawei brakes could cause oversupply of memory chip and lower prices. It recently revealed a proposal for a multi-billion dollar listing as the US-China uncertainty clouds the global chip market.

Sony spokeswoman said that the organization complied with all the legislation, but could not comment on individual customers.

Kioxia's spokeswoman has refused to comment.
