Instagram is Down Now, Users around the World Crash Complaint

Instagram seems to be down for a lot of users around the world. The problem tends to be unevenly distributed, operating for certain users, not others. The downtime week continues with another high-profile outage, with Instagram users turning to Twitter and other social media complaining about outages. The #Instagramdown hashtag is now on Twitter, and several Android users have told us that their app has been crashing, while others have confirmed that it's still running perfectly.

The official Instagram handle on Twitter hasn't posted anything about the shutdown so far but the trendy hashtag makes it clear that this is a widespread problem. According to DownDetector's website status trackers, Instagram's problems began to pick up at around 5 p.m. on Friday, and seem to have peaked at around 8 p.m.

Instagram and other Facebook items like WhatsApp and Messenger, along with Facebook, were all down just a little earlier this month. At that time, the downtime was mainly recorded in most parts of Europe, although it increased and even affected other regions.

The social network sharing picture is joining a variety of common sites that have faced interruptions this week. We saw a big Google shutdown earlier this week and Netflix was down on Thursday as well. Instant Messaging App Telegram experienced a crash on Thursday, and Facebook-owned Instagram joined the rising list on Friday.

It's not clear if there are common threads to these outages—failure Google's on Monday was related to the company's automated quota management system according to the company. The subsequent outage brought down all popular Google services, including Google Docs, YouTube, and Gmail. The other companies have not yet given specifics of what caused the issues on their websites.

Instagram seems to have started having issues since around 2PM on Friday 18th Dec 2020
